Explore the Panoramic route by car

For those looking for a leisurely way to experience the Blyde River Canyon, try a road tour or self-drive the panorama route and relish the Blyde River Canyon, the second largest canyon in Africa and one of South Africa's scenic wonders. From many well-positioned vantage points one has a view of the 33km long gorge. A public road runs along the long western boundary and there is easy access to beauty spots like The Pinnacle, God's Window with its kloof-framed view of the Lowveld, Bourke's Luck, and a lookout point pointing to The Three Rondavels. Travel tip ~ Enjoy a meal at Harry’s Pancakes in Graskop followed by some shopping at one of the many curio shops. For the adventurous types the Big Swing will give you an adrenaline rush to remember.

Explore the Blyde River Canyon by boat

Something different: Experience a boat cruise on the Blyde River Canyon dam that takes you to Kadishi Tufa waterfall and the Three Rondawels. Hippos, crocodiles and fish eagles are amongst the wildlife to be seen. Travel tip ~ Stop in at The Silk Farm for a bite to eat and a silk farm tour. Try their baobab essential oil which leaves a subtle smell of the bush. En-route to the boat cruise, just after you go over the bridge past Swadini Forever Resorts, park your car on the side of the road (it’ll be safe) and take a walk to the waterfall. Have a dip in the cool water below the falls. Kids love this.

Moholoholo Rehabilitation Centre – Hoedspruit

Brian Jones, a highly regarded contributor to wildlife education, runs Moholoholo Rehabilitation Centre, a home for many of South Africa’s abandoned, injured and poisoned wildlife. The centre offers guided tours daily. Travel tip ~ Although the introductory talk is extremely interesting it can be a bit long for little children (under 7 years). However, the tour where the children get the opportunity to interact with some of the animals makes up for it. This is a lovely activity to do with children.
